a note from laura:

Please know that I do not, and will not, use AI to create my banners.

I know AI is not going anywhere, and I recognize that it has useful applications in many areas. But when it comes to creating art, I believe there is something fundamentally human about the process that should be preserved.

I have been a graphic designer for more than 20 years, and that experience has deeply shaped the way I approach my banners. To me, design is not simply about making something that looks good. It’s about understanding a person, an event, a feeling, and finding a creative way to bring all of those things together. That is the part of the process I value most.

I also have concerns about the way many AI models are developed, including the use of artists’ work to train these systems without their knowledge, consent, or compensation. For these reasons, I have made the personal decision not to incorporate AI into my creative process.

There has been an influx of banner artists using AI to generate their entire designs and then painting those exact images onto paper. While the finished product may technically be hand-painted, I believe there is an important distinction between painting a generated image and creating something by hand.

For me, creating a banner begins long before the paint touches the paper. It starts when you reach out to me. We talk about your event, your vision, your colors, your theme, and the feeling you want your celebration to have. Then I sketch, design, refine, and thoughtfully create something that feels uniquely suited to you and your event.

That creative process is a meaningful part of what makes a hand-painted banner special.

When you commission a handmade piece, you aren't simply paying for paint on paper. You are paying for the time, experience, creativity, skill, and personal thought that goes into making something specifically for you.

That is why I choose to keep AI out of my creative process. When you order a banner from me, you are getting something created personally for you, with intention from beginning to end.

Thank you,
Laura
